The Fri Cine Socioambiental - Nova Friburgo International Environmental Film Festival - seeks to promote and to award prizes to films, ideas and actions that, given their importance, significance and originality, contribute to solutions to the countless, serious social and environmental problems that afflict life on earth.
The aim of the Fri Cine Socioambiental is to make people aware of socio-environmental issues through the screening of films. The staging of this film festival is designed to promote the city of Nova Friburgo and its environs as a centre of tourism and culture, and as a forerunner in the quest for both solutions to social and environmental problems as well as for sustainable development.
The city of Nova Friburgo is located in one of the world´s richest and most threatened eco systems. From the 19th century onwards, it has become a reference for Brazilian and foreign botanists, scientists and conservationists. Located in one of the best preserved remaining stretches of the Atlantic Rain Forest in the state of Rio de Janeiro, it is a city with deep international roots, providing a broad infrastructure for tourism and eco-tourism.
We shall inform the new dates for the 2010 edition soon .
The quality of films exceed all expectations, and it was difficult to establish criteria to make the final selection.
We are grateful to all those who submitted films in support of this important event.
